A Surprise Gift from Hilton

Shireen is a Human Resources Coordinator with Christchurch’s Chateau on the Park, a Hilton hotel. Part of Shireen’s role is to find ways that Hilton can help support local charities while making better use of their leftover food.

Earlier this year, Shireen worked with an organisation that put food in the freezers of local schools. A staff member at one of the schools mentioned that she had a friend who worked with Kairos. She explained what Kairos does and suggested that Hilton might want to consider doing some work with us in the future.

Shireen was soon in touch with Brydie, our Operations Manager, about how Chateau on the Park and Kairos might work together. While still in talks about what this might look like, we had a little surprise. Unbeknownst to us, Shireen had put in an application for a grant for Kairos Food Rescue through Hilton Global Foundation’s Action Grant program. HGF Action Grants are awarded to local nonprofit organisations to support Hilton team members as they engage in volunteer opportunities. Shireen was ecstatic to be able to surprise us with grant approval for USD $1,000.

We’re looking forward to having a long and lovely relationship with them,” Brydie said about the ongoing arrangements for working with Chateau on the Park.  “Shireen has been fabulous to work with so far, and seems really enthusiastic about making it work.”

Kairos Food Rescue would like thank Shireen, Chateau on the Park and the Hilton Global Foundation for their enthusiasm and generosity in working with local charitable organisations.
